at No. 16 Penn State 45, Temple 3: Daryll Clark threw two touchdown passes and ran for an 11-yard score to lead the Nittany Lions (4-0) over the Owls (1-3) at State College. Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno watched the second half from the press box. The 81-year-old Paterno has been complaining recently of a sore right leg.

at Purdue 32, Central Michigan 25: Kory Sheets broke loose for a 46-yard touchdown run with a minute left to lift the Boilermakers (2-1) over the Chippewas (2-2) at West Lafayette, Ind. Central Michigan had taken a 25-24 lead with 1:18 to go on a six-yard touchdown pass by Dan LeFevour.

at Northwestern 16, Ohio 8: The Wildcats got off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1962 by blocking two field-goal attempts, recovering two fumbles and holding the pesky Bobcats (0-4) to four yards rushing at Evanston, Ill.

at Minnesota 37, Florida Atlantic 3: The Gophers (4-0) had four interceptions, including a 50-yard return for a touchdown by Simoni Lawrence, to beat the Owls (1-3) at Minneapolis.

Ball State 42, at Indiana 20: MiQuale Lewis ran for 166 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Cardinals (4-0) overcome the loss of receiver Dante Love to beat the Hoosiers (2-1) at Bloomington. Love was carted off the field on a backboard and taken to a hospital after absorbing a big hit that jarred the ball loose following a reception. Love’s condition was still being evaluated, a hospital administrator said.
