Staff and Wire Reports

Prosecutors on Thursday added a felony identity theft charge against Jeffrey Braswell, son of Cal State Northridge men’s basketball Coach Bobby Braswell, setting a trial date of June 18 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Braswell is charged along with the Matadors’ former leading scorer Deon Tresvant, and a third defendant, actor Phannuel Gbewonyo, for allegedly committing burglary and theft by taking an estimated $6,600 worth of computers, video games and accessories from a Best Buy store where Braswell worked.

Braswell already faced three counts of grand theft and one count of second-degree commercial burglary. He pleaded not guilty to all counts at Thursday’s felony arraignment hearing. His attorney did not immediately return phone messages left for him.

MLS gets $10 million

Don Garber, the commissioner of Major League Soccer, said that MLS would receive $10 million for allowing David Beckham to extend his on-loan stay with AC Milan until the end of the Italian season on May 31. “We asked for $10 million, we got our $10 million,” Garber said.

He declined to say if the money is being paid by Milan, by Beckham -- as Milan club officials have suggested -- or by a combination of the two.

“We don’t know where it’s coming from either,” Garber said. “Milan could pay us. He could pay them. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter.”
