MORNING BRIEFING

If ever there was an owner who needed to reach out to his team’s fan base and assure them during troubled times, it would be the Kings’ Phil Anschutz. Coincidentally, there is not a more non-responsive owner than Phil Anschutz. The Kings just bumbled their way to another draft-lottery, non-playoff finish, yet the silence emanating from AEG’s Denver office is deafening.

Anschutz’s litany of errors was described by Helene Elliott in a recent column, and yet he followed up by doing and saying nothing. Then a Kings fan publicly calls him out in print for abandoning the franchise, and still he gives no impression that he cares.

Now I see why the Kings have no defense. Apparently they acquired that trait from their owner.
