at Detroit 10, Minnesota 8: Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila homered in a six-run first inning for the Tigers. Placido Polanco had four hits and drove in a run.
Baltimore 7, at Toronto 5: Nolan Reimold had two RBIs to help Orioles rookie right-hander Jason Berken win for the first time since May 26. Berken (2-9) allowed three runs and five hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out six.
Oakland 9, at Kansas City 4: Vin Mazzaro ended a personal eight-game losing streak and Cliff Pennington had his first career three-hit game for the A’s. Mazzaro (3-8), a 22-year-old rookie, picked up his first victory since June 7. He gave up three runs and eight hits in five innings.
Cleveland 6, at Chicago 2: Kelly Shoppach hit a two-run homer and a solo shot to lead the Indians, who won despite grounding into six double plays, tying an American League record for the 14th time. They have won 11 of their last 16 games.
Seattle 7, Tampa Bay 6 (11 innings): Ryan Langerhans hit a two-run homer to win it in the 11th for the Mariners.
