Horse sense
The thrills at last Sunday’s Veuve Clicquot Robert Skene Trophy Finals at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club were hardly confined to the field of play, with the well-heeled and behatted bystanders taking the opportunity to strut their stuff, toss back some uncommon bubbly (including a rare vintage Veuve Clicquot 1988) and engage in some spirited divot stomping between chukkers.
The first match may have ended in a 9-8 victory for Team Lucchese, but the day was clearly an all-around win for Santa Barbara’s stylish set.
