Going to the dogs and the dolphins

Heck, yes, we’ll be talking about: the 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

If you’ve never watched, let this be your introduction: It’s literally like “Best in Show.” And this year brings a new breed to the competition, the Dogue de Bordeaux. He’s known for “balanced temperament” and “imposing presence.” Also, the dog’s head may be the largest in the canine world. (Monday)

Can we talk for a minute about: Joaquin Phoenix?

So he’s quitting acting to be a rap star now. (I smell a mockumentary in the works, but we’ll see.) The bigger question is whether anyone will miss him. Decide for yourself by watching James Gray’s downbeat drama “Two Lovers,” possibly the actor’s final film, in which Phoenix plays a tortured man who falls in love with two women, the volatile neighbor who doesn’t want him (Gwyneth Paltrow) and the earnest family-backed one who does (Vinessa Shaw). (Friday)

Can’t wait to talk about: “It’s Not Me, It’s You.”

Don’t expect the same frothy reggae beats of “Smile” on Lily Allen’s sophomore disc, a smorgasbord of songs from the boisterous Brit covering drugs, racism, family and the single life set to dance-ready keyboards and synths. She can tell us off any day. (Tuesday)

Been waiting years to talk about: “Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection.”

Before Super Nintendo became a real rival for my affection, I was a Sega kid with a soft spot for Alex Kidd, Sonic the Hedgehog and Ecco the Dolphin. Now they’re all back in this 40-game anthology of old school classics. Golden Axe in HD? Unreal. (Tuesday)
