Ohio State’s Wells mulls his options

Ohio State star Chris “Beanie” Wells isn’t ready to say whether the Fiesta Bowl will be his last game for the Buckeyes.

“I personally feel like I haven’t done enough at Ohio State, the things I wanted to accomplish here, to move on to the next level,” the junior running back said Thursday.

Asked if that meant he was leaning toward staying at Ohio State for another season, Wells said: “I don’t want to say I’m leaning toward staying or I’m leaning toward going. All I’m saying is I do want to be the best Buckeye to ever come through here.”

The 10th-ranked Buckeyes (10-2) play third-ranked Texas (11-1) on Monday.

Coaching news

Tulsa Coach Todd Graham has agreed to a new 10-year contract that could keep him with the Golden Hurricane through the 2018 season.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed by the private university.

The Golden Hurricane (10-3) will face Ball State (12-1) in the GMAC Bowl on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, California Coach Jeff Tedford is staying put for now after agreeing to a two-year contract extension that takes him through the 2015 season. Athletic Director Sandy Barbour announced the deal.

The Golden Bears completed a 9-4 season Saturday by beating Miami, 24-17, in the Emerald Bowl. It was Cal’s fifth victory in a school-record six consecutive bowl appearances under Tedford.

Elsewhere, Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops earned $3 million when the calendar flipped.

A clause in Stoops’ contract provided for the 48-year-old coach to receive a so-called “stay bonus” of $3 million after completing 10 seasons as the Sooners’ coach.

Stoops was scheduled to receive the bonus if he remained at Oklahoma through 2008, which ended Wednesday.

Freeman gone?

Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman was expected to announce that he’s skipping his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

A person with knowledge of Freeman’s decision told the Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, the school planned to make a formal announcement today.

Freeman, a 6-foot-6 junior, broke most of Kansas State’s career passing records.
