Powerful couple

T.J. Simers has it right: If only the Dodgers would double their payroll, knock down an iconic stadium instead of preserving it, and kick out one of baseball’s best managers, then they could be just like the Yankees. The third-place Yankees. Who sat home in October while the Dodgers made a run in the playoffs.

Say what you will about the McCourts, but they’re building a winning franchise.

As President of Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI), I would like to offer a different perspective on Frank and Jamie McCourt than the one that T.J. Simers presented in his Jan. 11 column.

I have worked with the McCourts since they came to Los Angeles in 2004. They are deeply committed to providing athletic opportunities for youth, especially those in underserved areas. When they arrived in Los Angeles, they came to me asking, “What can we do to help?” The McCourts and the Dodgers have done all that I have asked and more.

In my opinion, the McCourts deserve to be named “Power Couple,” and more important, deserve admiration and respect from all Los Angeles -- baseball fans and non-fans alike.

The only three Dodgers chosen to be bobbleheads last season are now gone (Takashi Saito, Brad Penny and Joe Beimel).

Now if we can just get the Dodgers to make bobbleheads out of Ned Colletti and the McCourts . . .
