Detroit 11, at Minnesota 9 (16 innings): Placido Polanco hit two extra-inning run-scoring singles, the second giving the Tigers the lead for good in the 16th. Polanco drove in a run in the top of the 14th against R.A. Dickey, but Michael Cuddyer’s run-scoring single in the bottom half tied the score at 8-8.

at Texas 3, Tampa Bay 1: Tommy Hunter earned his first career victory on his 23rd birthday and Hank Blalock homered for the Rangers, who won their third straight. Hunter (1-1) was making his sixth career start and third this season. The right-hander gave up three hits and struck out five.

Chicago 5, at Kansas City 0: John Danks threw 7 1/3 shutout innings and got a big lift from reliever Scott Linebrink as the White Sox won their seventh straight.

Seattle 7, at Boston 6 (11 innings): Rob Johnson doubled home two runs in the 11th inning for the Mariners. George Kottaras hit his first major league homer in the bottom of the 11th for the Red Sox, who tied the score at 5-5 with two runs in the eighth inning.

at New York 4, Toronto 2: A.J. Burnett scattered six hits over seven innings, and Robinson Cano and Alex Rodriguez homered for the Yankees.

Baltimore 6, at Angels 4: Aubrey Huff hit a three-run homer for Baltimore.
