Royals beat Blue Jays to end eight-game skid
Kansas City 6, at Toronto 2: Luke Hochevar pitched a season-high 6 2/3 innings, Willie Bloomquist hit a three-run triple and the Royals ended an eight-game losing streak. Mark Teahen homered and drove in three runs for Kansas City.
at Boston 8, Texas 1: Jon Lester retired the first 19 batters he faced and finished with a two-hitter, and David Oritz homered for the Red Sox. Michael Young doubled into the gap in left-center with one out in the seventh inning to break up Lester’s bid for a perfect game.
at Seattle 2, Minnesota 1: Ken Griffey Jr. drove in Ichiro Suzuki with a two-out double in the eighth inning for the winning run. A day after his club-record 27-game hitting streak ended, Suzuki went three for four.
at Chicago 4, Cleveland 2: Josh Fields homered and Gavin Floyd pitched into the seventh inning, helping the White Sox end a four-game losing streak.
at Oakland 9, Baltimore 4: Jason Giambi’s three-run double helped rookie Trevor Cahill end a three-start losing streak, and the Athletics won their season-best fifth straight game.
at Detroit 2, Angels 1: Former Dodger Edwin Jackson threw a four-hitter and the Tigers ended a four-game skid.
