Update: Having provided the opposition in the inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer game in March, the Freedom returns to Southern California to again take on the Sol, which is on a five-game unbeaten streak. French midfielder Camille Abily, who scored the tying goal in the 90th minute in a 1-1 deadlock with the Chicago Red Stars on Wednesday night, is in a tight individual battle with teammate Marta for the team scoring lead. Abily has four goals and one assist, just behind the Brazilian star, who has four goals and two assists. Washington’s Abby Wambach is tied for the league lead in shots with 27, teammate Sonia Bompastor leads the WPS in assists, with four, and Lisa De Vanna is the Freedom’s top scorer with three goals. With today’s game, the first-place Sol will complete the first half of the season.
