Two drivers were killed in separate traffic accidents on transition roads to the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday.

A Ralphs grocery tractor-trailer overturned on a transition road to the freeway and plunged about 35 feet onto a parking lot near the L.A. Convention Center, killing the driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck landed upside-down and smashed two parked cars. The driver, Jesus Reyes, 39, of La Puente was ejected.

The truck was turning on the elevated transition road from the westbound 10 Freeway to the northbound 110 when it overturned, said CHP Officer Josh Kolstad. Investigators said the truck was traveling about 45 mph in a 30-mph zone.

In an unrelated accident, the driver of a white Chevrolet Suburban was killed on the transition road from the southbound 101 Freeway to the southbound 110.

CHP officers said the driver was apparently speeding and might have been under the influence of alcohol. His identity was not released.
