A 19-year-old man convicted earlier this year in the execution-style murder of his mother’s boyfriend was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years to life in prison, authorities said.

Javell Walton Jr. of Los Angeles was found guilty in February of second-degree murder in the killing of Jerome Stallworth, who had been having an affair with the teen’s mother, prosecutors said.

Walton fired twice at the victim using a sawed-off shotgun from point-blank range, striking Stallworth in the chest and head, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Elan S. Carr. He said Walton was angry about the victim’s relationship with his mother.

“This was an explosion of rage directed toward the victim,” Carr said.

The killing took place March 22, 2007, in the Jefferson Park area of Los Angeles.
