The Las Vegas City Council has approved plans for the construction of a $245-million performing arts center downtown, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

The center will have a 2,050-seat multipurpose main hall, a 300-seat cabaret theater and a 200-seat flexible studio theater for rehearsals, children’s theater and community events, the newspaper said.

Groundbreaking is tentatively set for May 26, with completion in 2012.
