I have read few political commentaries that spoke so eloquently and depicted a current political reality so well -- even if metaphorically -- connecting it to the machinations of the fear-and-loathing party as the short work of fiction “Look at the Birdie” by Kurt Vonnegut [“Look at the Birdie,” Oct. 18].

Hatred, anger and paranoia set loose and manipulated in the strategic game of political blackmail. The brilliant part of it all is that the fear and loathing works all the better by making the economy, the health system, the living conditions worse. After all, creating is difficult; destruction via hatred and fear is easy. Is that why they are so positive of their ultimate success?
