QUICK TAKES : A DeMille for Scorsese
Director Martin Scorsese is the recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.’s Cecil B. DeMille Award for “his outstanding contribution to the entertainment field,” it was announced Thursday. Scorsese will receive his honor at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, to be telecast on NBC Jan. 17 from the Beverly Hilton ballroom.
The influential 66-year-old filmmaker, who won an Oscar for directing 2006’s “The Departed,” previously has won two Golden Globes for best director -- for “The Departed” and for 2002’s “Gangs of New York.” He was nominated for a Golden Globe for best director for 1980’s “Raging Bull,” 1990’s “GoodFellas,” 1993’s “The Age of Innocence,” 1995’s “Casino” and 2004’s “The Aviator.” He was also nominated for best screenplay with Nicholas Pileggi for “GoodFellas.”
His latest film, “Shutter Island,” was originally scheduled to open last month but has been moved to next year. Previous DeMille award recipients include Steven Spielberg, Warren Beatty, Robin Williams and Michael Douglas.
