Mark DeRosa homers twice in Cardinals’ victory
St. Louis 7, at Houston 3: Mark DeRosa homered twice at Minute Maid Park for the second time this season and the Cardinals beat the Astros a few hours after Houston fired Manager Cecil Cooper.
Atlanta 11, at New York 3: Chipper Jones homered and drove in four runs to power the Braves over the Mets. The Braves moved to within five games of idle Colorado for the NL wild-card lead with 12 games left.
Chicago 10, at Milwaukee 2: Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez hit consecutive homers, and Tom Gorzelanny tied a career high with nine strikeouts.
San Francisco 5, at Arizona 4: Pinch-hitter Fred Lewis beat out a double-play grounder with the bases loaded to drive in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
