Twins get past White Sox, 8-6
Minnesota 8, at Chicago 6: Brian Duensing (5-1) won his fifth consecutive decision and the Twins stayed 2 1/2 games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central with their ninth victory in 10 games.
Detroit 11, at Cleveland 3: Carlos Guillen hit two of the Tigers’ three home runs to help rookie Rick Porcello (14-9), who improved to 3-0 with a 1.80 earned-run average in four starts against the Indians. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run, 440-foot home run for the Tigers.
Boston 9, at Kansas City 2: David Ortiz hit a home run and drove in four runs, and Josh Beckett (16-6) gave up two runs over six innings to lift the Red Sox. Beckett struck out seven but gave up 12 hits.
at Tampa Bay 5, Seattle 4: B.J. Upton drove in three runs, two with a single in the eighth inning, and Akinori Iwamura drove in the other two for the Rays.
at Toronto 7, Baltimore 3: Travis Snider hit a home run and drove in two runs, Scott Richmond (7-10) won for the first time since June 24 and the Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep.
New York 3, at Angels 2: A.J. Burnett (12-9) struck out 11 and the Yankees won a series at Anaheim for the first time since May 2004
