Dick Van Dyke achieved TV superstardom as television comedy writer Rob Petrie in the 1961-66 Emmy Award-winning CBS comedy series “The Dick Van Dyke Show” created by, written by and costarring Carl Reiner, who played the egocentric TV star Alan Brady.

Van Dyke introduced “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” the 1964 Oscar-winning tune penned by Richard and Robert Sherman, in the classic “Mary Poppins.” Van Dyke played Bert, a jack-of-all-trades who is best friends with nanny Mary Poppins ( Julie Andrews).

‘Diagnosis: Murder’

Van Dyke teamed up with his actor-son Barry for the lighthearted medical detective series “Diagnosis: Murder,” which aired on CBS from 1993-2001. He played Dr. Mark Sloan, a physician who helped solve crimes with his detective son.
