The not-so-alluringly named but nonetheless highly welcomed Gourmet Food Truck Corner kicked off Monday at the corner of 14th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard in Santa Monica. But by Tuesday it had been shut down over a zoning issue, according to the Twitter feed of @SMFoodtrucklot.

If all goes as planned, the parking lot there (or somewhere else) will be a gathering place for food trucks such as Asian Soul, Barbie’s Q, Border Grill, Cool Haus, Dainty Cakes, Don Chow Tacos, Fishlips Sushi, Grilled Cheese Truck, India Jones Chow, Kogi BBQ, Lomo Arigato and Nom Nom, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday. There was no immediate response to an e-mail to the Southern California Mobile Food Vendors Assn.

LA Mill, caffeinated and now boozy too

LA Mill Coffee Boutique now has its beer and wine license, say owners Craig Min and Jean Shim-Min. As soon as next month, the Silver Lake cafe will be rolling out a beer, sake and wine list, with a few inventive soju cocktails. You can also expect a new menu put together by Providence chef Michael Cimarusti. “I’d like a menu with an emphasis on value,” Craig Min says.

Babycakes is open downtown

Vegan and nonvegan cupcake fans lined up for their fix of the gluten-free, agave-sweetened treats at Babycakes downtown, which opened this weekend in the Pacific Electric Lofts at 6th and Main (next to Cole’s French Dip). At the L.A. outpost of New York-based Babycakes, cupcake flavors include vanilla, carrot, chocolate and red velvet, made with chickpea-fava flour or spelt flour. There is also the genius of the cupcake top (just the “tops” smeared with frosting).
