Three pet-product manufacturers -- Feline’s Pride, Merrick Pet Care and United Pet Group -- have recently issued or expanded voluntary recalls of some of their products over concerns about possible salmonella contamination.

Feline’s Pride, a New York-based company that makes raw cat food, has recalled 2.5-pound containers of its Natural Chicken Formula cat and kitten food produced on June 10 and 21.

Merrick Pet Care, based in Texas with distributors around the country, has recalled 86 cases of its Beef Filet Squares for Dogs treats. Affected products are 10-ounce bags with a best-by date of March 24, 2012, and bearing the lot number 10084TL7.

Customers with affected packages of Beef Filet Squares for Dogs are asked to return the product to the place of purchase.

Finally, the United Pet Group, which had previously issued a voluntary recall of all unexpired lots of its Pro-Pet Adult Daily Vitamin products for dogs, has expanded that recall to include a number of other nutritional supplements for both dogs and cats.

Products included in the extended recall include ear powder, multivitamins, breath mints, brewer’s yeast tablets, glucosamine tablets, urinary tract health supplements and other items marketed under a variety of brand names, including Doctors Foster and Smith, Excel and Pro-Pet. A full list of recalled products is available on the FDA’s website.

Symptoms of salmonella infection in animals can include lethargy, lack of appetite, fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Owners should contact their veterinarian should their pet display such symptoms.

Concerned pet owners can call Feline’s Pride at (716) 580-3096 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday; Merrick Pet Care at (800) 664-7387 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday; and the United Pet Group at (877) 399-5226 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday.
