The Fourth Annual Greek Film Festival opens at the Egyptian Theatre on Friday with the U.S. premiere of Vardis Marinakis’ 2009 love story “Black Field.” The festivities conclude Sunday with the U.S. premiere of Fillipos Tsito’s 2009 drama “Plato’s Academy” and an awards ceremony. https://www.lagff.org.
Honoring Richard Benjamin; ‘The Black Hole’
Screenwriter Larry Karaszweski’s latest offering at the American Cinematheque’s Aero Theatre on Friday is all about actor-director Richard Benjamin. Karaszweski will moderate a Q&A with Benjamin and will present two of Benjamin’s best films as an actor: the 1973 cult sci-fi thriller “Westworld,” directed by Michael Crichton, and the acclaimed 1970 drama “Diary of a Mad Housewife,” in which he plays the cruel-minded husband of an unhappy housewife (Carrie Snodgress, in her Oscar-nominated performance).
On Sunday, the Aero and the Visual Effects Society is presenting a 70-millimeter print of the 1979 Disney sci-fi epic “The Black Hole,” which was Oscar-nominated for cinematography and special effects. Laura Danley, curator at the Griffith Observatory, will introduce the film. Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Harrison Ellenshaw, matte painting supervisor and son of production designer Peter Ellenshaw. https://www.aerotheatre.com
