Angels 4, Chicago White Sox 4

Tempe, Ariz.

At the plate: Mike Napoli hit a solo home run to the opposite field in the fourth inning, Juan Rivera had an RBI single in the third, and Howie Kendrick doubled to deep center in the second. The Angels tied the score in the eighth on Hank Conger’s sacrifice fly and Freddy Sandoval’s RBI single.

On the mound: Sinker-ball specialist Joel Pineiro gave up a run and three hits in two innings, but two of the hits in Chicago’s run-scoring second were hard ground balls that were knocked down by infielders. Newly acquired Angels reliever Brian Stokes pitched two hitless innings.

Extra bases: Left fielder Juan Rivera, rarely known for his flashy glove work, made two nice plays in the third, going to the gap to make a running, shoestring catch of Gordon Beckham’s drive and toward the warning track to make an over-the-shoulder catch of A.J. Pierzynski’s fly ball.

Up next: Right-hander Sean O’Sullivan will start Friday’s noon (PST) game against Colorado in Tempe.

On the air: TV: FS West; Radio: 830.
