Connolly’s OT score puts Sabres in first in Northeast

— Tim Connolly scored at 2:31 of overtime, Adam Mair had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Miller made 27 saves to help the Buffalo Sabres beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, on Friday night.

Thomas Vanek also scored for the Sabres (34-20-9), who won for the second time in their last 10 games and moved a point in front of Ottawa for first place in the Northeast Division.

Simon Gagne and Mike Richards scored for the Flyers (33-26-4), who have lost two straight after a five-game win streak. Michael Leighton made 32 saves but lost for the first time in his last seven starts.

In overtime, Leighton stopped Buffalo defenseman Toni Lydman’s shot from the left circle, but Connolly got the rebound in the slot and scored the winner.
