Loyola Marymount ends Pepperdine’s season
Vernon Teel scored a game-high 27 points and Ashley Hamilton had 23 to lead Loyola Marymount past Pepperdine, 87-84, in the first round of the West Coast Conference tournament Friday night at Las Vegas.
Teel made nine of 13 shots and had six rebounds. Hamilton was 13 for 15 on free throws for the fifth-seeded Lions (17-14), who will face No. 4 San Francisco (12-17) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Keion Bell had 25 points for Pepperdine (7-24), which ended the season on a 12-game losing streak.
at Long Beach State 76, UC Riverside 74: The 49ers (15-15, 8-8 Big West) closed the regular season by holding off the Highlanders (12-17, 5-11).
