Want to practice your deal-hunting skills before Black Friday? American and JetBlue announced winter sales that end Monday night. I’ve tested some sample fares below to see whether these sales pass muster and they do — but it all depends on where and when you’re going. Although they won’t work for holiday travel, they might inspire you to add a getaway to your pre- or post-holiday plans.

American Airlines: One-way fares (based on round-trip purchase) start at $59 plus tax from Los Angeles to Denver, Las Vegas, Reno, San Francisco and San Jose, as well as $139 plus tax to Chicago and $159 plus tax to Miami.

When: The offer is good until 9:59 p.m. PST Monday. Travel is good from Dec. 1 through Feb. 16, with blackout dates around the holidays. Also, the offer requires a 14-day advance purchase.

Tested: I went online and found the $59 fare each way to and from Denver leaving Dec. 10 and returning Dec. 13. Total ticket cost with tax was $139.40, a pretty good deal for a ski-weekend getaway.

JetBlue Airways: One-way fares from Los Angeles start at $119 plus tax to Boston and $129 plus tax to New York City. Fares from Long Beach start at $39 each way to Las Vegas, $44 to San Francisco and Oakland and $59 to Seattle or Portland, Ore.

When: The offer is good until 8:59 PST Monday. Travel is good from Nov. 29 to Dec. 18. This offer requires a seven-day advance purchase, and other restrictions apply.

Tested: In an online check, I found the $59 fare available each way from Long Beach to Seattle leaving Dec. 9 and returning Dec. 13.
