College football: Chris Dufresne’s Play It Forward

Share

Five things to watch this week in college football:

1. Will No. 1 fall in consecutive weeks? Ohio State supplanted Alabama as the nation’s top team, but the Buckeyes immediately put their ranking on the line on Saturday at No. 18 Wisconsin. It will be only the second road game for Ohio State this season.

2. Texas at Nebraska looked like the preseason game of the year but has lost a lot of luster now that two-loss Texas has dropped out of the top 25. With Nebraska leaving next year for the Big Ten, though, this could be the last time the teams meet for many years.

3. The Southeastern Conference could be down to one very shaky undefeated team (Louisiana State) if No. 12 Arkansas can go to The Plains and beat No. 7 Auburn, which is coming off a shaky three-point win over Kentucky.

4. Wyoming (1-5) deserves combat pay this season. The Cowboys play host to Utah in Laramie this weekend, the last game in a brutal stretch of scheduling. Wyoming has already played Texas, Boise State, Air Force and Texas Christian.

5. We know how Alabama has dealt with success while winning 19 straight games. What about failure? To stay in the national title race, Nick Saban’s team needs to regroup from the South Carolina loss and take care of incoming Mississippi, which heads to Tuscaloosa after an open date.
