Jamie McMurray takes win at Charlotte

Jamie McMurray earned his third victory in his comeback season, beating all of the championship contenders at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.

McMurray is not eligible for the Sprint Cup championship. But he blew past title contender Kyle Busch on a restart with 21 laps to go in Saturday night’s race.

Busch had the dominant car but settled for second place after a late caution erased his lead and gave McMurray the opening he needed to take the win.

Four-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson came back from an early spin that dropped him to 37th and was third.

Favre will meet with NFL official

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said a league official will meet with Brett Favre next week as part of an investigation into allegations that the quarterback sent racy text messages and lewd photos to a Jets game hostess in 2008 when he played for New York.

Goodell made his comments as he attended the Western Michigan- Notre Dame game. The NFL later said the meeting would be Tuesday in Minnesota with a member of the league’s security team.

The New York Giants signed kicker Shayne Graham because of an ankle injury to Lawrence Tynes. Tynes sprained his left ankle practicing kickoffs Friday.

Shanghai final to pit Federer vs. Murray

Roger Federer defeated Novak Djokovic, 7-5, 6-4, to set up a match with Andy Murray in the final of the Shanghai Masters.

With the win, Federer will regain the No. 2 ranking he lost when he was beaten by the Serb in the U.S. Open semifinals in September. Murray dispatched Juan Monaco of Argentina, 6-4, 6-1, in the other semifinal to reach his fourth final of the year.

Former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic reached her first final in 19 months when she beat Roberta Vinci of Italy, 6-3, 7-5, to set up a match against Patty Schnyder in the Generali Ladies finale at Linz, Austria.

Japan’s Kimiko Date Krumm is on track to become the oldest player to win a WTA singles title after beating Shahar Peer in the semifinals of the Japan Women’s Open at Osaka. Date Krumm, who turned 40 last month, broke the third-seeded Israeli Peer to go up, 6-5, in the third set before serving out for a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 win.

Date Krumm’s opponent in the final will be Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand, who upset second-seeded Marion Bartoli of France.

Rocco Mediate holed out with a pitching wedge from 111 yards on the par-5 15th hole for his third eagle of the week and finished with a four-under 67 to maintain a three-stroke lead Saturday in the Frys.com Open at San Martin, Calif.

Michele Redman holed out from 126 yards for an eagle on the par-four 18th hole for a four-under 68 and a share of the third-round lead in the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge in Danville, Calif., with Spain’s Beatriz Recari and South Korea’s Ilhee Lee.

Fantastic Pick, the longest shot in a field of eight 3-year-olds, beat Blue Panis by a head to win the $150,000 Oak Tree Derby at Hollywood Park in 1:48.51.
