UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince out for season after knee surgery

UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee on Saturday.

Prince, a sophomore, was the Bruins’ starting quarterback this season, but has had pain and swelling in his knee since injuring it against Texas on Sept. 25.

During the surgery, Prince’s meniscus was repaired and he underwent a microfracture procedure to stimulate the growth of new cartilage in the knee, according to a UCLA release.

The loss of Prince, who threw for 384 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions in five games this season as the Bruins attempted to debut their new “pistol” offense, leaves reserve Richard Brehaut as the likely starter.

Brehaut made his second start of his UCLA career in the Bruins’ 60-13 loss against No. 1 Oregon on Thursday, when he had three turnovers. Brehaut had a pass intercepted on the Bruins’ first possession and later fumbled twice when he was sacked.

On the season, Brehaut has thrown for 348 yards and two interceptions in four games.

UCLA also announced that sophomore linebacker Patrick Larimore, who dislocated his left shoulder in the first quarter of Thursday’s game at Oregon, is expected to be sidelined for about three weeks.
