BikeFest
When, where: Sept. 30 to Oct. 3, mostly at the Cashman Center
Highlights: Some 30,000 bikers descend on Las Vegas for this 10th annual rally of revving engines, bikini-clad models and more than 250 vendors selling anything a Harley devotee would ever need. Events include a bike builders’ competition, the crowning of Mr. and Miss Las Vegas, the World’s Strongest Biker Contest and a custom-bike show.

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ.
Scottsdale Classic Futurity & Quarter Horse Show
When, where: Sept. 30-Oct. 6, WestWorld of Scottsdale
Highlights: Equine aficionados come to watch more than 1,000 horses compete. Also on the docket: a silent auction, a costume contest, an ice-cream social and booths selling Western-themed gear.

Oktoberfest
When, where: Oct. 1-3, La Mesa Boulevard
Highlights: More than 200,000 are expected to show up for beer, German food, Bavarian bands and dancing, a children’s carnival and some 300 craftspeople selling their works.

Historic Home Tour
When, where: Oct. 3, throughout Pacific Grove
Highlights: Wander into charming coastal homes that date to the 1800s during this annual self-guided tour. Other happenings include an art exhibit, a silent auction and an organ concert in honor of Mayflower Church’s 100th birthday.
Cost: $20; $10 for ages 6 to 18; free for children ages 5 and younger

DAVIS, CALIF.
World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade
When, where: Oct. 3, starting and finish lines at the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge
Highlights: Join in this attempt to set a Guinness record for the world’s longest line of bicycles as part of a leisurely ride on downtown streets. Afterward, check out the Central Park festival made merry by local bands, a firefighters’ barbecue, a beer-and-wine garden, children’s activities and access to America’s new Bicycling Hall of Fame.
Cost: Parade registration is $10; $20 gets you registration plus a commemorative T-shirt. Free for spectators. Proceeds benefit local schools.
