California International Antiquarian Book Fair

When, where: Feb. 11-13, Concourse Exhibition Center

Highlights: The world’s largest rare-book fair brings together manuscripts, maps and ephemera from about 250 sellers, as well as book-related lectures and seminars. This year’s theme is music, so music-related books and manuscripts, some dating to the 1300s, will be on display.

Centennial of Naval Aviation

Highlights: Celebrate 100 years of naval aviation with a Parade of Flight, featuring more than 200 vintage flying machines, an open house, ship tours, aircraft exhibits, music and food on San Diego Bay; this is among the first of a yearlong series of nationwide events.

Modernism Week

Highlights: This 10-day tribute to Midcentury Modernism features architecture tours, a display of vintage Airstreams, a classic-car show, architecture-related films and lectures, art exhibits, the Modernism Show at the Palm Springs Convention Center, and house tours, including a rare chance to see Frank Sinatra’s 1947 abode and its grand piano-shaped swimming pool.
