Major League Baseball may be in for a major-league tell-all, if controversial star slugger Alex Rodriguez scores a rumored book deal.

The New York Post reports that HarperCollins and Random House are each in talks with the Yankees third baseman. According to an unnamed source, Rodriguez plans to write a tell-all about his troubles with MLB.

Rodriguez is one of the prominent players allegedly linked to the Biogenesis clinic, which provided steroids to athletes. In August, he was suspended for a whopping 211 games, which he has appealed. Although the hearings are meant to be secret, there have been reports that A-Rod is angry at his treatment; he walked out of a hearing in November.

Rodriguez released a statement explaining his actions at the time: “I am disgusted with this abusive process, designed to ensure that the player fails,” he said. “I have sat through 10 days of testimony by felons and liars, sitting quietly through every minute, trying to respect the league and the process. This morning, after [MLB Commissioner] Bud Selig refused to come in and testify about his rationale for the unprecedented and totally baseless punishment he hit me with, the arbitrator selected by MLB and the Players Association refused to order Selig to come in and face me.”

“The absurdity and injustice just became too much. I walked out and will not participate any further in this farce.”

Rodriguez has been making appearances in the media to tell his side of the story. He may be granted permission to play next season, an issue that is expected to be decided in January.

It’s this ongoing tussle that would likely be the subject of his upcoming book.

Rumors about the book put the sale price at $5 million. Though that’s a hefty chunk of change for publishers, it can’t seem like much to the player who signed a $275-million, 10-year contract in 2007.
