An author uprising with Chris Hedges and Dinesh D’Souza

As the presidential race heats up, conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Chris Hedges will battle it out on the airwaves on the KPFK-FM (90.7) show “Uprising” at 8 a.m. Tuesday. The topic of discussion: D’Souza’s controversial documentary “2016: Obama’s America,” which has grossed more than $26 million since its Sept. 9 release. The film is based on D’Souza’s 2010 book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” which argues that President Obama’s Kenyan father held radical socialist views that have influenced the president’s policies from beyond the grave.

Providing a counterpoint to that argument is Hedges, whose recent bestseller “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt” is an illustrated account of forgotten regions of the U.S. ravaged by corporate greed and unregulated capitalism, from North Dakota to the coal mines of West Virginia, areas that have been sacrificed at the expense of local inhabitants. A 20-year war correspondent, Hedges won a Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for the New York Times’ team coverage of global terrorism.

Moderating the debate is “Uprising” host Sonali Kolhatkar, author of 2006’s “Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords and the Propaganda of Silence.”

If you are looking for a little music to go with your current events, musician Wyclef Jean will be performing at the book signing for his memoir, “Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story,” at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. He will be discussing his book with former L.A. Times reporter, Geoff Boucher.
