Hundreds of cars, hot rods and choppers pull into Pomona for show
More than 1,600 custom cars, hot rods and motorcycles from all over the world have filled eight exhibit halls and parking lots at Pomona’s Fairplex for the 64th annual Grand National Roadster Show.
The event is a three-day beauty pageant of autos that is expected to draw more than 50,000 attendees. It culminates late Sunday when judges name the winner of the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster title and award the outsize 9-foot trophy that comes with it.
There are 12 contenders -- many of them variants of the iconic 1932 Ford coupe -- going after the award.

Winning is no easy task. The roadsters must have unblemished bodies, pristine motors and accents -- even the way a screw is turned can be crucial.
Once known as the Oakland Roadster Show, the event is said to be the longest-running indoor car show in the world. This is its 10th year in a row at the Fairplex since being moved from Oakland.
It’s fitting that the Grand National Roadster Show take place in Pomona, a city that has served as a center for Southern California hot-rod culture since it built one of the first city-sanctioned drag strips in the early 1950s.
In nearly every corner of the exhibit halls sit autos decked out with plush interiors, candy-color paint jobs and glinting chrome accents. There’s also a feature exhibit called Woodies, Wagons & the Spirit of Aloha, displaying surf vehicles, that involves more than 100 station wagons.
Tickets are available at the door. General admission is $20. It’s $10 for children under 12 years old, and children under 5 are free.
