Barry Bonds tries to hit one out of Beverly Park

Perhaps hoping to hit a home run of a different sort, former baseball outfielder Barry Bonds has listed his Italian-inspired estate in Beverly Park for sale at $25 million.

Designed to function as both a place to host large-scale events and as a family home, the 17,100-square-foot villa sits beside a circular motor court centered on a multi-tiered fountain. The 1.85 acres of grounds include an outdoor kitchen, a swimming pool with a cabana, a 2,100-square-foot sports court, an olive grove, lawn and a rose garden.

The interiors feature ceilings as high as 30 feet, a hand-painted wall mural of the Tuscany landscape, limestone columns and Venetian plaster/faux finish walls. Rooms include a walnut-paneled office, a 12-seat theater, a game room, a wine cellar, a gym, seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.

Bonds, 48, played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants during a two-decade-plus career that included seven most valuable player honors. He failed to gain entrance into the Baseball Hall of Fame earlier this month. It was his first year of eligibility after a 2011 conviction for obstruction of justice related to the government’s investigation of steroid use and the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO).

He paid $8.7 million for the property in 2002, public records show. The estate is being offered furnished.
