Verizon delays Galaxy S III launch in stores to Thursday
Like all its other U.S. competitors, Verizon Wireless is having some difficulty with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III and will delay the phone’s launch by two days.
The delay of the flagship Samsung phone, which was supposed to launch from Verizon on Tuesday, is indicated by a change on the carrier’s website, which now displays an “Available for purchase 7/12” tag after previously naming July 10 as the intended date.
This change, though, appears to affect only the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III’s in-store launch. Engadget is reporting that pre-orders appear to have shipped and have arrived for some people.
Verizon carries both colors of the phone as well as 16 GB and 32 GB versions, available for $200 and $250, respectively, with a two-year contract.
The Samsung Galaxy S III is also available from three other top U.S. networks, each of which also had trouble with their launching of the phone.
Last month, AT&T; had to delay the shipments of its pre-orders. That was after Sprint delayed its own shipments and had to push back the in-store launch of the phone.T-Mobile also had some trouble with its store launch of the phone, having to limit its launch to its online store and select markets.
But the delays and troubles aren’t too surprising with the Galaxy S III.
Demand for the phone has been pretty high, and last month, Samsung said it expected to ship 10 million units of the Galaxy S III by some point this month.
