‘Peter Pan’ on NBC casts Kelli O’Hara for live broadcast

NBC has bulked up the Broadway credentials of its upcoming live broadcast of “Peter Pan.”

Kelli O’Hara -- a five-time Tony Award nominee -- will play the role of Mrs. Darling, mother of Wendy, in the TV production scheduled to air Dec. 4. As previously announced, Christian Borle, another Broadway veteran, will take on the dual roles of Mr. Darling and Smee.

O’Hara joins the previously announced Allison Williams as Peter Pan and Christopher Walken as Captain Hook. O’Hara received acclaim for the 2008 Broadway revival of “South Pacific.” She recently starred in a Broadway production of the musical “The Bridges of Madison County.”

Starting in April, O’Hara will star in a Broadway revival of “The King and I,” opposite Ken Watanabe.

Last year’s live broadcast of “The Sound of Music” on NBC received much criticism for country-music star Carrie Underwood’s performance. The broadcast included Broadway stalwarts Audra McDonald as the Mother Abbess and Borle in the role of Max Detweiler.
