Laurie Metcalf, Bobby Cannavale are Broadway bound

Broadway will see the return of actors Laurie Metcalf and Bobby Cannavale in the new season that begins in the fall.

Metcalf, an original member of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater, will star in “The Other Place,” Sharr White’s thriller, which premiered last year at Off-Broadway’s MCC Theater, set to open Jan. 10 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

The actress is currently onstage in London’s West End in Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey into Night.”

In “The Other Place,” she will star as a researcher on the brink of a breakthrough in neurological medicine when her world and family begin to unravel.

Winner of three Emmys for her role as flaky sister-turned-police officer Jackie in the ‘90s hit “Roseanne,” Metcalf was nominated for a Tony in 2008 for “November.”

Cannavale, last seen on Broadway in Stephen Adly Guirgis’ “The Mother... With the Hat” in 2011, is joining the revival of David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross” with the previously announced Al Pacino.

Cannavale will play Ricky Roma, which was Pacino’s role in the 1992 movie version of the play about two days in the lives of real estate agents. (This time around Pacino will play elder salesman Shelly Levene.)

Also known for his performances in the films of Thomas McCarthy (“The Station Agent,””Win Win,”) Cannavale won an Emmy in 2005 for his role as officer/boyfriend Vince in the NBC sitcom “Will & Grace.”

“Glengarry Glen Ross” is scheduled to open at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre Nov. 11.
