TV ratings: ‘America’s Got Talent’ slips but wins Tuesday night

“America’s Got Talent” is doing back-flips over the Tuesday night competition. The live Aug. 6 episode on NBC, featuring a standout performance by acrobatic team Chicago Boyz, was the most-watched and highest-rated broadcast of the night.

The two-hour competition program drew an average of 9.3 million viewers and scored a 2.5 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen. That’s down about 7% from last Tuesday’s key-demographic rating. A ratings point equals about 1.3 million viewers.

NBC won the ratings with an 7.43 million viewers overall and a key-demographic rating of 2.

“So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox also dropped this week. It hooked 4.04 million viewers and had a 1.3 in the 18-49 demographic, down from last week’s 1.4.

ABC’s “Extreme Weight Loss” grew its overall audience 8% from last week, to an average of 3.89 million viewers.

CBS, still dealing with a carriage dispute with Time Warner Cable, aired repeats.
