Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer renews contract, to stay into 2018

Lionsgate Chief Executive Jon Feltheimer has signed a new long-term agreement with the studio, extending his tenure until May 2018, the company said Monday.

Feltheimer will receive an annual base salary of $1.5 million with a targeted yearly bonus of $1.5 million, according to a regulatory filing.

“We believed in Jon’s early vision of how to best position Lionsgate to grow and adapt to a rapidly changing industry,” said Lionsgate Chairman Mark Rachesky, in a statement. “He has successfully executed on a business plan which required discipline, patience and investment in all of the Company’s key business segments in order to create highly valuable content and long-term value for shareholders.”

The company last week reported earnings and revenue that beat analyst expectations, boosted by its young adult franchises “The Hunger Games” and “Twilight.” Feltheimer said on a call with analysts that the company will continue to focus on teen-oriented films.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” the second installment in the apocalyptic franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence, is slated for release in November, as is “Ender’s Game,” based on the novel by Orson Scott Card.

“Divergent,” based on a series of popular young adult books, is schedule to open in 2014.

Shares of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., which is run from Santa Monica, were trading Monday at $28.98, up 18 cents.
