‘Les Miserables’ among winners of Cinema Audio Society Awards

The period musical “Les Miserables” won the 49th Cinema Audio Society Award on Saturday evening for outstanding achievement in sound mixing for a live action motion picture for 2012.

The award went to the sound mixing team of production mixer Simon Hayes, re-recording mixers Andy Nelson and Mark Paterson, scoring mixer Jonathan Allen, ADR mixer Robert Edwards and Foley mixer Pete Smith.

The sound mixing team of Disney/Pixar’s “Brave” were the winners in the new category of outstanding achievement in sound mixing for an animated motion picture. The award was given to original dialogue mixer Bobby Johanson, re-recording mixers Tom Johnson and Gary Rydstrom, scoring mixer Andrew Dudman and Foley mixer Frank Rinella.

On the television front, “Hatfields & McCoys” won for achievement in sound mixing for a TV movie or miniseries and the “Beirut is Back” episode of “Homeland” earned the achievement in sound mixing honor for one-hour television.

The Disneyland installment of “Modern Family” won in the achievement in sound mixing honor for half-hour TV and “The 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony” was the recipient in the achievement in sound mixing for TV non-fiction, variety or music -- series or specials category.

There were also two technical achievement awards handed out. The award for production went to Sound Devices - 664 Field Production Mixer with Recorder. The award for post-production went to Dolby-Atmos.

Production sound mixer Chris Newman received the society’s career achievement award. Director Jonathan Demme was the recipient of the society’s filmmaker award.

The awards were presented at the Crystal Ballroom at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.
