In the biggest Sundance Film Festival deal so far, Relativity Media is buying Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s sexual obsession story, “Don Jon’s Addiction,” for about $4 million with plans to release the film wide later this year, according to two people close to the film.
The actor’s directorial debut, which Gordon-Levitt also wrote, looks at a young man named Don Jon (Gordon-Levitt) who is obsessed with his own body and random sexual encounters and who can’t shake his dependence on pornography.
When Don meets a woman (Scarlett Johansson) looking for a more traditional relationship, he tries to change his habits but with little success.
The people who confirmed the deal were not authorized to discuss it publicly.
Relativity previously bought the 2010 Sundance documentary “Catfish,” which grossed $3.2 million domestically and spawned a television show.
