Tate Donovan, nominated in the ensemble in a motion picture category for his role as Bob Anders in “Argo,” approached the press line at Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet with his eyes on the readily available bottle of Purell.

“Do you have this out here for when you shake actors’ hands? Us actors, we’re just disgustingly dirty, aren’t we? This would never happen at the DGAs!”

Still in high spirits from “Argo’s” tremendous win at the Golden Globes, Donovan shouted, “We didn’t expect it at all! We’re so psyched — that night at the Golden Globes was just mind-blowing.”

The film’s producer, Grant Heslov, who accepted the dramatic motion picture award on behalf of the cast, was Donovan’s former USC roommate, making the acceptance particularly personal and meaningful for Donovan.

“Watching him accept that award, I almost burst into tears.”

Donovan chose to remain equally humble on the red carpet. “My prediction is that ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ will take home the win. Did you see that movie? My family and I just laughed our asses off watching that!”

Either way, Donovan was just thrilled to reunite Sunday with his “Argo” cast members.

“Before going into filming, [director] Ben [Affleck] put us all in a house together for seven days. We still adore each other.”
