Leonardo DiCaprio won the Golden Globe for lead actor in a comedy or musical motion picture for his full-throttle performance as high-flying stockbroker Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

“This is an incredible, incredible honor,” said DiCaprio noting the other nominees as “my fellow comedians.”

DiCaprio beat out Bruce Dern’s turn as an aged curmudgeon in “Nebraska,” Christian Bale’s pudgy con man in “American Hustle,” Joaquin Phoenix’s futuristic lonely heart in “Her” and Oscar Isaac’s downbeat folk singer in “Inside Llewyn Davis.” This was DiCaprio’s 10th nomination for a Golden Globe and his second win, having earned his first for his performance in Scorsese’s “The Aviator.”

The last film screened for many critics and voting groups, “The Wolf of Wall Street” set the awards season aflame from its very first showings. A brutally shocking look at the perils of excess, the film has been fanning a firestorm of controversy, and placing it in the category of comedy or musical couches it more clearly as satire.
