Dye-a! Dascha Polanco of ‘Orange Is the New Black’ goes gray at NYFW
Daya’s got a new dye job. Dascha Polanco has gone gray in a pretty fabulous way.
The “Orange Is the New Black” actress made gray and purple the new black on Sunday, debuting her look just in time for New York Fashion Week.
Polanco, who plays pregnant inmate Dayanara Diaz on Netflix’s prison comedy, posted a selfie on Instagram to introduce the icy blowout just before sitting front row at the Tracy Reese fashion show: “Umm..I’m just saying tho #nyfw #hitmypart,” she wrote.
The edgy new ‘do is actually a wig, her stylist Cynthia Alvarez revealed to Us Weekly. Alvarez wears her hair in the same manner.
“She called the night before [Fashion Week], and said I’m ready to go gray,” Alvarez told the mag. “She badgered me with excitement about if for the longest, so we just did it.”
The Dominican actress’ long mane is silver on top and falls into purple-tinted curls down below -- and it’s a far cry from Daya’s dreadful dye job on the show. The look diverges from the soft waves she normally wears as well as the glamorous look she donned at the Emmy Awards last month.
Polanco’s new look had beauty blogs buzzing enough that she took to social media to share her gratitude.
“ITS QLL ABOUT HOW U FEEL. ITS HOW U WORK IT. VOGUE IT. SLAY IT,” she wrote. “THANKING my FANS, BLOGS, MAGS, NYFW MEDIA for all the love you’ve been showing my new look!! MY hairstylist @CynthiaGlam AND I love taking risks and weve got a winner on our hands”
She added that they love to play with extensions, color, volume and wigs.
The stylish star also hit Rolando Santana’s and Laurel DeWitt’s shows on Monday with some of her “OINTB” family.
