Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi not having a baby, or so they say...

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi firmly shut down baby rumors with a bit of lively dialogue on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

It’s not the first time the Emmy winner has taken to her daytime talker to explain details about her personal life, which normally include declarations that she and her wife of six years are still in love and not heading for a divorce. But this time, she invited De Rossi, the newest cast member of ABC’s “Scandal,” to break the news -- or the lack thereof.

“One of the main things that everybody’s asking me about and asking you about, and I thought I would let you clear it up, is if we’re having a baby or not,” DeGeneres said to De Rossi. “So I thought maybe you should answer that question.”

“It would be so fun for everybody if we were?” De Rossi replied. “And there’s a magazine cover, this one right, did you see it says, ‘They’re finally starting a family.’ Like, are people really that mad at us that we haven’t had kids? So, no.”

“No, we’re not going to have a baby?” DeGeneres asked.

“No,” De Rossi replied.

“OK, good for me to know now,” the host said.

DeGeneres, 56, and “Arrested Development” star De Rossi have been tabloid favorites since they got together 10 years ago. De Rossi, 41, who appeared on “Ellen” with her “Scandal” costars last month, added that this time around, even her brother wondered if the baby rumors were true. DeGeneres commiserated.

“Craig, my assistant, asked if I was keeping something from him because it’s so prevalent that everyone assumes we really are having a baby and we’re just not sharing it. So we might be having a baby, we’re just not sharing it,” the host quipped.

“This is just one big act, right now,” De Rossi quipped back. “That’d be pretty clever of us.”

Clever indeed, and it even left this blogger still wondering if the banter was just their cover for an expertly crafted Hollywood baby announcement. But alas, the pair shut it down again and again and still dodged the topic in DeGeneres’ other “tough” interview with her wife. So, no.
