Kendrick Lamar confirms engagement to Whitney Alford

Kendrick Lamar is engaged to girlfriend Whitney Alford.

The “I” rapper confirmed the news during a Friday interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club.

When asked if he put a ring on it, the typically private rapper replied, “Yeah definitely. I’m loyal to the soil.”

The Compton native has been dating his high school sweetheart for about 10 years and Alford was spotted recently wearing a huge diamond ring during a fan meet-and-greet in Compton, which sparked engagement talk, according to Madam Noire.

“At the end of the day, you want to always, always have real people around you. Period,” the 27-year-old emcee added. “Whether it’s male or female. Everybody that’s been around me, theyv’ve been around me since Day One.... I always show respect where respect’s been given and people that been by your side, you’re supposed to honor that.”

Lamar, birth name Kendrick Duckworth, dropped his third critically acclaimed album “To Pimp a Butterfly” just last month and it quickly climbed the charts.

The rapper said he was a no-show at this year’s Grammy Awards, where he won awards for rap performance and rap song, because he was “locked in” to finish “Butterfly.”
