Zoe Saldana’s husband takes her last name, she gushes about their twins

Zoe Saldana’s husband, Marco Perego, has flouted tradition and has taken his wife’s last name.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” Star, 37, revealed that little tidbit in the July issue of InStyle, which marks her first cover since giving birth to her twin sons in November.

“I tried to talk him out of it,” she told writer Mike Sager. “I told him, ‘If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.’ But Marco looks up at me and says [in his Italian accent], ‘Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a sheet.’”

Perego, now presumably Mr. Saldana, is an Italian artist and former professional soccer player. Since marrying him in 2013 and giving birth, the actress, who described herself as “independent to a fault,” has homed in on family. “I want to live inside the religion of our own little family,” she said.

She’s as slender as ever in a demure Dolce & Gabbana dress on InStyle’s Paul Maffi-shot cover, though she claims she doesn’t want to get her now “softer and stronger” body back to its formerly lithe frame.

Meanwhile, she still has a full slate of action-packed movies ahead of her that build on the more than $5 billion her films have already earned at the box office.

She’ll appear in the comedy “Infinitely Polar Bear” opposite Mark Ruffalo later this month and “Nina,” the Nina Simone biopic, due later this year. On top of that, Saldana is churning out the sequels: “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” “Star Trek 3” and the next three “Avatar” films among them.

InStyle’s photo shoot was the Dominican-Puerto Rican star’s first day back on the job since having her boys, Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio, five months before and the actress gushed about her little mixed-race men while shooting her colorful cover.

“I come from a very physically eclectic family,” she said. “Black. Latin. Lebanese. We were all colors, but we never talked about it. We all ate the same food. I look at Cy, and he looks almost Cambodian. And I look at Bo and it’s like, oh my god, our little pharaoh.”
