Comics on Comics: Molly Prather on Ron Babcock

“Ron Babcock — he’s definitely emerging in that alternative comics world. The thing I love about Ron is that he’s like that guy that you sat next to in Spanish class who was always cracking jokes and getting you in trouble for laughing. And now he’s still that guy, but he’s also way cool and didn’t get all fat like those other guys did from high school.

“He’s very observational — he has this great bit about this book about evolution and dinosaurs — he’s definitely the smartest guy in the room. Just pointing out the obvious absurdities and being like: ‘Come on, you guys!’

“He plays all over — he’s been doing stand up here and in New York pretty solid for like four or five years. He’s constantly doing shows. And stand up is definitely his thing. I have full faith that he will be, like, a Patton Oswald. A working from here to eternity stand-up comic for as long as he wants to.

“And he has the perfect last name for a comedian — cuz he has a dirty joke in his last name!”
