Happening Friday: Bawdy Storytelling
EVENTS
Bawdy Storytelling Everyone loves hearing a good yarn — but what about when that story includes a transsexual sex worker, a BDSM porn clown or an interaction with “gay deprogramming” at a behavioral modification boarding school? These are some of the examples that will air at Bawdy Storytelling, a series headed by Dixie De La Tour. She returns to Los Angeles this month with her show devoted especially to the Libertines, those who are “morally and/or (especially) sexually unrestrained.” Don’t say we didn’t warn you. The Abundant Sugar Warehouse at the Brewery, 618A Moulton Ave., L.A. 8 p.m. $15. bawdystorytelling.com
Apollo 15 + 40 Years: Serious Science on the Moon NASA fans distraught over the end of the space shuttle program may find a bit of solace in this presentation, which chronicles the fourth manned lunar landing, in 1971, through video and photographs. John Drescher Planetarium, Santa Monica College, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica. 8 p.m. $5 general admission, $4 seniors and children. (310) 434-3005. https://www.smc.edu/planetarium
MUSIC
Dolly Parton With a fresh record out and a world tour that includes her Hollywood Bowl headlining debut, the 65-year-old country veteran runs counter to the idea of surrender. She’s country’s ultimate can-do gal, a reputation that deepens with bright-eyed new original tunes about painting rainbows in the sky and finding satisfaction in Champagne and chocolate milk alike. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., L.A. 8:30 p.m. Today-Saturday. $11-$158. https://www.hollywoodbowl.com
